Victoria’s Story

Paving the Way for Future Generations…Thanks to You

Victoria didn’t grow up in a safe, stable home. Her childhood was marked by trauma and pain; cycles she’s determined to break for her own children.

But determination alone wasn’t enough. Becoming a single mom while still facing her own mental health struggles, nursing her infant every 90 minutes, and no family support, she reached a breaking point. “I was sleep deprived. I wasn’t eating. I was just at my end.”

She hesitated when she learned about the Nursery. “Is this really a crisis?” she wondered.

But walking through the Nursery’s doors nearly a decade ago changed everything. Because you believe parents should have compassionate support when they need it most, Victoria was met with warmth and reassurance. “Everyone was so supportive. It made it easier for me to trust them with my child.”

For the first time in months, she slept. She ate. She showered. She began to breathe again.

Her kids trust the Nursery too, especially her 4 year-old, Princeton. He lights up when he sees his favorite teacher, Dee. “They say your kids are supposed to have four safe people. I take teacher Dee as one of those four people for Princeton.”

Today, Victoria is thriving. She’s a mom to three boys, a mental health professional, and a powerful advocate for other moms.

Victoria is breaking generational cycles. Her kids are growing up with safety, stability, and a mother who believes in their future…and her own. “My life is peaceful. I created that for myself and my kids. And the Nursery really helped with that.”

Because of you, Victoria had a safe place to land when she needed it most. And because of you, her boys are growing up surrounded by love, resilience, and hope.

The WHY

Hundreds of families experiencing crisis turn to Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery every year. They are facing housing instability, financial stress, domestic violence, exhaustion, and other difficult situations.

Your support connects these families to critical resources to help stabilize their family and move them out of crisis. It takes $1,300 to care for a child for 3 days. They are provided with homemade meals, winter clothing, enriching play and new friendships, a warm cozy bed at tuck-in time, and highly qualified staff to care for them around the clock.

Nursery services are free to families because of caring individuals. In fact, 80% of the Nursery’s $5.3 million budget comes from contributions from generous people like you.

Today, YOU can be the difference between crisis and stability for a child and their family. Thank you for your commitment to strengthening families and giving children a bright future.
