Impacting the quality of life for all
The thought of a parent or caregiver harming a child is so difficult for us to think about that we deny it, choosing to believe "it doesn't happen here".
Prevent Child Abuse America reports that there are roughly 15 confirmed cases of abuse for every 1,000 children. For every confirmed case, there are others that go unreported. This means that a child you know may be experiencing, or at risk of, abuse.
The economic consequences to the individual and to society are staggering. The annual national cost of child abuse and neglect is more than $24 billion. Add in associated costs and that number climbs to more than $94 billion.
But while abuse costs all of us financially, we all pay a moral price as well. Every baby is precious and unique. Every child deserves to be nurtured and to thrive. When parents have the support of family and community, the risk of abuse is dramatically reduced. Parents occasionally need a place to turn to for help, and when they do, Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, in partnership with a caring community, is there for them.
