Protecting Children Begins with Awareness
- Child abuse and neglect are the leading causes of death in children under age four.
- The annual cost of living for a family of one adult plus two children in the Twin Cities Metro Area is $40,809. Eighty-seven percent of Nursery families have an annual income of less than $10,000.
- Of the 7,000 victims of abuse last year in Minnesota, most victims were under age six.

- About 50,300 Minnesota children under age 5 live in poverty, or nearly 15%.
- Highest number of Minnesota children in poverty live in Hennepin County (34,000) and Ramsey Counties (18,000). The Nursery currently serves Hennepin County.
