JJ: Pediatric Medical Care Success Story
JJ's mother Denise faced many personal challenges and began bringing him to stay at the Nursery when he was five months old. JJ would often show signs of wheezing, retracting and had difficulty breathing. JJ also frequently was treated for ear infections and skin ailments. Due to the frequency and severity of his symptoms, JJ would often have to be discharged from the Nursery early, and this would put added stress on Denise.
The situation seemed to repeat itself many times over a period of six months, and then JJ's medical conditions began to show signs of improvement. Denise had tubes put in JJ's ears to decrease the infections, and consulted with his doctor to work on improving his skin condition. She worked hard with JJ's doctors to learn how to administer his medications consistently and to better understand JJ's conditions. Denise also worked with her primary physician to stabilize JJ's breathing problems, skin conditions and ear infections.
At the age of 16 months, JJ's health concerns were stabilized to the point where he was able to remain at the Nursery for his full scheduled 72-hour placement without being discharged for his medical issues, having to be seen by doctors, or being taken to the emergency room.
