Getting In - Out of the Cold
George phoned the Nursery after midnight one frigid night last December. He and his one-year-old daughter, Danielle, were homeless and had nowhere to spend the night. The two had been living with a friend in Minneapolis , but that friend was out of town for the holidays, and George and Danielle had nowhere to sleep.
The two had been walking outside, and while George knew he could be outside all night, he didn't think his Danielle could manage it. Someone had picked them up and brought them to a hospital, and from there George called the Nursery from a list he had been given. The Nursery arranged for a taxi cab to bring George and Danielle.
They arrived a little after 2:00 a.m. After taking a tour of the Nursery, George said he felt good about leaving Danielle in our care. He liked the clean, warm and nurturing environment, and was thankful for the help he received in a crisis.
The Family Advocates and Child Care Provider Supervisors on staff were able to take Danielle in for the night, and George found another friend's place to spend the night. George called the next day and stated that he had found a new place for himself and Danielle in which to stay. |
