Ongoing Support and Accountability
Parents who use the Nursery's residential child care services more than three times per year are referred to our 4th day program. Using an in-home visit model, it offers more sustained support and access to additional human services over a 12-18 month period.
Families who participate in the 4th Day Program:
- Have multiple barriers to self-sufficiency
- Are isolated and at risk of abusing or neglecting their children
- Are not receiving similar services from another agency
- Are not involved in a child protection case
- Want to make a positive change in their lives and their children's lives
- Without 4th Day, their needs may go unaddressed
Working with a Master's level human services professional called a Field Manager, these vulnerable families plan a set of goals and tackle them one by one. The 4th day program helps families in continual crisis gain a firmer footing on the path to self-sufficiency.
When a family completes their plan of action the 4th Day Program relationship ends. However, families may continue to use the Nursery's child care and referral services as needed.
Through 4th Day, we provided 312 home visits to 24 families in FY 2006.
Of those families, 8 obtained mental health services, 14 found child care, 11 obtained medical/dental insurance, 15 secured housing, 5 entered educational programs, and 15 found jobs.
