Community Roundtable Discussion Group
Hosted by members of the Nursery's Program Services Department, this bimonthly discussion group invites experts from a variety of areas and disciplines to share their perspective and experience specific to local social service concerns.
The intent of this discussion group is to enhance and support the collaborative relationships between social service agencies that work with families and children in Hennepin County.
The Nursery, along with other service providers, pool resource information, exchange knowledge and generate ideas for more effective programming and community services.
The attendees represent all sectors of the Minneapolis service community, including Human Services, Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis, Medical Outreach and Services, Legal Aid, and faith-based organizations.
Past Roundtable guests include:
- Hennepin County District Court Judge Pamela Alexander recently shared her perspective on the juvenile justice system, the need for programs and services that take preventative measures, how to keep children out of the court system, the need for more involvement on the part of fathers, and other issues.
- Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin attended the Community Roundtable Discussion group in March 2005. Commissioner McLaughlin lead a discussion about "the state of the county" and the future for nonprofit service organizations.

Community Advisory Council
The Nursery is constantly seeking practical feedback regarding the current needs of the community it serves in order to ensure that our programs and services are appropriately aligned.
The Community Advisory Council meets quarterly with the Nursery's Program Services Director to provide the following support to the organization:
- Assist in establishing program postioning
- Advise program direction
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of Nursery programs
- Provide networking opportunities to the Nursery
Council members commit to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Commitment to and understanding of the community the Nursery serves ( Hennepin County service area).
- Serve as an ambassador for Nursery services in the community
- "Test" and evaluate internal assumptions about the needs of the community
- Share academic and professional expertise in the areas of crisis intervention/prevention, child abuse and neglect, multiculturalism, early childhood development, parent education, client services, program planning/evaluation, etc.
- Resource and referral networking to benefit families and children living in Hennepin County
