Ms. Lee joined the Nursery in June 2006. She has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit management and fund development. Prior to joining the Nursery, Ms. Lee served as Director of Development and Communications for Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. She has also held executive positions at nonprofits including The Center for Community Change in Washington, D.C., St. Catherine University in St. Paul, and the St. Paul Tenants Union. Ms. Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Political Science from St. Catherine University. As Executive Director, Ms. Lee is responsible for leading operations at the Nursery, carrying out Board policy, representing the Nursery to the public, and executing the Nursery's strategic plan.
Mr. Willig joined the Nursery in May 1999. He has 21 years of accounting experience for nonprofit agencies, thirteen of those years as a chief financial officer, including his tenure at the Nursery. He assures the effective management of the Nursery's facilities, internal administration, and financial operations. He develops and manages the Nursery's annual budget and works closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. Mr. Willig holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Macalester College.
Previously Joel was a Director of Development with the Minnesota Medical Foundation at the University of Minnesota where he worked on major gift fundraising for diabetes research. Prior to working in the non-profit field, Joel practiced law locally at Merchant & Gould and in New York at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. Joel is deeply involved in the community and serves on the Board of the Fund for the Legal Aid Society. He founded and ran the Associates' Campaign for Legal Aid, an annual fund drive that raises over $100,000 annually and nearly $300,000 to date to benefit civil legal services for the poor. Joel is a Director of the Western Golf Association / Evans Scholars Foundation, a national non-profit based in Chicago that administers the Chick Evans Scholarship--the largest privately funded scholarship program in the country. A native and current resident of Minneapolis, he received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota. “We welcome Joel to lead our important fund development and communications work on behalf of the Crisis Nursery. Joel possesses the passion and excitement to engage benefactors and donors in our mission of strengthening families and preventing child abuse and neglect,” announced Mary Pat Lee, executive director.“ She added, “89% of our budget is raised through private funds so it is critical for the Crisis Nursery to have someone of Joel’s caliber and leadership abilities.” Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery commemorates its 25th Anniversary this year and is the only residential crisis nursery in Minnesota Its mission is to work with parents in crisis and the community to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. It offers free, voluntary services to Hennepin County families in crisis with children newborn through age six, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis counseling, 72-hour residential child care, medical care to children staying at the Nursery, referrals, home visits, parent education and parent support groups.
Ms. Kenney joined the Nursery as Field Manager in June 2003, was promoted to Family Services Manager in August 2005, and now has been promoted to Family Services Director. She has earned a Masters in Social Work from the College of St. Catherine / University of St. Thomas, and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. In addition, she is a licensed Social Worker with the State of Minnesota. Ms. Kenney is responsible for directing all Program Services staff, maintaining Minnesota Department of Human Services licensing standards, and ensuring safe and quality program and client services.
